Two leopard cubs, identified as a male and a female, found in the sugarcane field near Junnar in Pune were rescued and reunited with their mother by the forest department and Wildlife SOS NGO. The cubs were noticed by the local farmers of Nirgude village of Junnar while harvesting the sugarcane on their farm. The incident was immediately reported to the forest department who rushed to their aid. The cubs were later brought to the Wildlife SOS Leopard Rescue Centre for medical examination.
The two cubs were identified as one male and one female estimated to be about 45 days old. Wildlife SOS and the forest department facilitated the reunion by placing the cubs in a safe box, close to where they were discovered and installed a remote-controlled camera trap to document the reunion process.
Leopard cubs spotting in the sugarcane field in the Junnar area have become an uncommon thing in recent times as many such incidents have been reported to the forest department in the last few months.
