This year, for the 73rd Republic day, go eco-friendly with the Indian flag, and plant a seed. Araatrika is an eco-enterprise driven by the mission of creating sustainable and eco-friendly stationery and gifts, has introduced an Indian tri colour Flag made using Tulsi seed paper. You can pin the flag on Republic Day on your clothes with pride and dispose it by planting it in the soil, it will turn into a beautiful sapling! Amazing idea right? That way, it won’t get thrown on the streets or in the garbage and this destruction is in line with Flag Code Of India 2022.
“With India celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav-75 years of Independence, 26 January 2022 has become extra special. It is the perfect opportunity for us to take a pledge to be more sustainable and close to nature, hence these eco-friendly seed flags,” said Jagruti Khabiya – Founder and Creative Head at Araatrika.
An architect by profession and an environmentalist by choice, she was working as an eco-architect in Auroville and Delhi before setting up shop here. “Upcycling has been very close to my heart, caring for the environment has always been at the top of my list. Araatrika is a passion project,” she said.
The idea is to encourage people to upcycle and to encourage them to stop using plastic. Most of the time, the flags on sale for republic day are either made of paper or plastic and mostly are ‘use N’ throw’. “It is sad to see so many tricolours being thrown away after Republic day, hence using this opportunity to bring in the efforts of the women’s self help groups, we have made flags using tulsi seed paper and can be planted after the celebration, giving it the respect and later watch it grow into a beautiful plant,” she added.
