If the rice can not soak up the flavours of that authentic Goan fish curry, then half the food pleasure is gone! And so we are showcasing a very special Goan thali to all foodie Punekars. A new seafood place in Karve Nagar, Zamba Kitchen, serves a full Goan fish meal with the signature red Goan rice.

This parboiled red rice is best at soaking up all the flavours and juices of a curry. That’s why Goans prefer this high-fiber rice with their curries. At Zamba Kitchen, we got a 100% Goan fish thali experience which usually is incomplete at other places in Pune. With a nice big piece of Rawa fried Surmai, the authentic Tival, zero-oil Goan Surmai curry, Cabbage bhaaji, fresh raw mango pickle, Sukkat chutney and a bowl of fresh Aamras to finish off the thali. Pair this with steaming hot red rice, you just can’t stop eating!

Zamba Kitchen is operated by all women and that assures you hygiene, freshness and great food. The Surmai fish was absolutely fresh and was fried to just perfection. The crisp Rawa coating beautifully compliments the flaky marinated slice of seer fish. The oil aroma was fresh. Fish curry Goan style was as good as homemade, no oil preparation with a nice hint of kokum. Take a nice bite of Surmai fry, mix the curry with rice, let it soak up the flavours quickly and have a niceful handful of rice with Sukkat chutney! That’s pure unadulterated bite of heaven!

We also ordered a plate of Calamari Recheado because you rarely get fresh Calamari in Pune and recheado is a flavour we didn’t want to miss. Such a spot on preparation with a superbly pungent garlic chilli masala with strong undercurrents of vinegar. Have it just like that or mix a bit with rice, satisfaction guaranteed. We did crave Goan Poie though, to eat with this hell of a dish!

The kitchen is set in a completely quaint by lane behind Kothrud Stand and it almost feels like you’re eating at a country roadside eatery in Goa. You may miss just two things here, Beer and Poie. Rest everything is as it is as you would find it in Goa. Go to Zamba Kitchen if you’re simply craving a laid back Goan fish thali and save yourself a trip to Goa (as if we just need a reason to visit there)!
