Vietnamese cuisine is hailed as one of South East Asia’s fusion hot pot flavours! Vietnamese cuisine is not new to Pune (earlier we had Smiley House) with a few more around. But dedicating a food truck to the most popular and national dish of Vietnam, bringing ‘pho’ to every food lover is a feat made possible by chef Nagraj and Aparna Bhat.
They started The Pho Truck in Ravet earlier in 2021. Since December 17th, Tejal and Ganesh Pawar, foodies keen on being in the food business, have taken this franchise to Balewadi and it is touted to be the largest food truck in the area.
Yes, The Pho Truck is back! It brings back not only the Original Aromatic Classic Broth but also Mushroom Broth Pho and the 5 Spice Hot Garlic Pho too.
What could be the best thing to have on a nice chilly winter night? A visit to The Pho Truck which begins operations from 6pm to 11.30 pm, is a must if you love aromatic soups with fresh vegetables.
Noodle soups are usually broths with noodles and other ingredients cooked over a long time. They are the most common and popular type of food in Vietnam. Every city and province has its own style and range of soup broths.
Phở is named after Bánh Phở, a thick flat rice noodle, usually made with chicken broth or beef. But in this truck, they make it with vegetables.
They customise the dishes as per your choice of chicken or seafood which is usually prawns.
The menu consists of appetisers, Vietnamese glass noodle salad (140 for veg/ 160 chicken and 190 for prawns). This is one of the fastest selling dishes which has incredible flavours of fresh vegetables and peanuts. Scallions add to the crunch and the in-house dressing is simply fantastic.
Summer Rolls or known commonly in Vietnam as Gỏi cuốn, is prawn/vegetables ingredients wrapped in Vietnamese rice paper bánh tráng. Here, they serve a long summer roll cut into five pieces, easy to pick and eat. (140/- for veg, 160/- chicken and 190/- for prawns)
I enjoyed the chicken dumplings too. These are pan seared, lightly tossed in soy and garlic sauce. The pho which is the highlight of the truck, The 5 Spice Broth attracts the majority of the customers as it is a spicy broth with chillies, garlic, ginger, 5 spice and coriander. I opted for the Classic Broth which is lightly flavoured with basil, coriander, lemon and a hint of 5 spice.
The Pho Truck has also introduced a Korean dish Japchae, a savoury glass noodle stir fry tossed with vegetables and in house sauce (Rs 250/ 280 / 310).
