Here’s the latest restaurant in Katraj and has a strong word of mouth for the latest Thali in town! The name is Ghevar Thali and it is being talked about for all the right reasons. Here’s all about our visit to this impressive royal thali place which is making waves in this part of P town!
The entrance marks a striking welcome with the traditional Jaipur pink stone wall and the name Ghevar fancily written on it. Starting with such an authentic element right at the entrance adorned with a Tulsi vrindavan and traditional Marwadi figurines, we looked forward to the royal feast coming up. The interiors are traditional yet lavish and the seating arrangement is a mix of Indian and a bit of western style. No compromise on the luxury aspect there! The mild Jaljeera as a welcome drink once you are seated is just perfect to refresh you and your appetite for lunch.
We are told by the owners that the entire menu (except for rotis and rice) is different everyday even for lunch and dinner. We were there for lunch and the menu was actually king size for lunch. Warm water was poured on our hands from a special kettle for washing the hands, the royal treatment continues! Farsan for the lunch menu was white soft Dhokla, Cutlet and Papad Churi. As they say right at the entrance, the thali truly is a medley of Rajasthani and Gujarati cuisines. Moving forward, servers brought sabjis, dal and kadhi. The sabjis are not the usual gheesa-peeta ones, but the seasonal ones like Tondli ki Bhaaji, Rajasthani Gatte ki Sabji, Marwari style Chhole (not the usual gravy wale), etc appeared on the thali. A spoonful of all these sabjis without roti and on their own is recommended to understand and enjoy the flavours.
There were two dals that day, Gujarati sweet one and the other one being a Marwari spicy version, both equally delicious! Aloo Matar was the only usual suspect in the thali but it was full of flavours and not so spicy. We devoured these sabjis and dals with fresh hot rotis, Marwari parathas slathered with desi ghee. Also for some hearty notes, make sure you grab the kadhi khichdi combo that is to die for, with lots of ghee of course.
Desserts for this meal were dry fruit Kheer and desi ghee Shira, totally desi and paisa vasool! Richy and creamy Kheer had loads of dry fruits making the royal experience complete. The hot Shira was quite hearty and oozing with desi ghee. To wash down all the rich dishes of this thali, a full glass of soothing chhaas helped us end the meal on a chilled note.
Even after such a rich meal, you would not feel bloated or dizzy. All the foods were so fresh and light on the tummy. Although you may feel that this thali would be pricey, this entire unlimited thali experience at Ghevar is priced just at Rs. 250/- only! We feel this would be the most inexpensive royal thali in Pune given the kind of luxury ambiance and experience Ghevar in Katraj offers.
