A soothing and fulfilling delicacy of Sindhi cuisine is here to relish your taste buds! ‘Jay Jhulelal’ the famous stall serving ‘Dal Pakwan’ dish once at M.G. road near Aurora Towers, has now shifted to a new spot on JM Road, Pune.

‘Jay Jhulelal’ is a small stall which has been run by 2 brothers, Sumit and Vishnu Gupta for over 5 years. When we visited this place we were able to smell the divine aroma of the hot piping Dal. A huge steel vessel, in which the Dal is slowly cooked. It is made of Chana Dal mixed with tomato, spices and fresh herbs. On the other hand, a huge pile of Pakwan are stacked up. The Pakwan is simple flat, thin and crispy deep fried bread.

One bite into this simple Sindhi delicacy gives you a homely feeling! They first create a layer of two crunchy Pakwan and then pour the hot Dal over it generously! The last layer is of spicy mint chutney and sweet, spicy tamarind chutney. To finish it off he puts crunchy onion and fresh coriander. One spoonful of ‘Dal Pakwan’ and you get crunchy yet soft textures of this dish all together. Even though the flavours feel so light, yet this dish is pretty fulfilling for your tummy! That’s comfort food at its best.

After having this homely goodness, you need to try their hot and sweet homemade Gulab Jamun that are literally melt in mouth soft. Deep fried Gulab Jamuns are dipped in sweet goodness of sugar syrup for long enough making them soft and spongy.

All the ingredients of Dal Pakwan and Gulabjamun are made fresh every day making this authentic Sindhi dish even more tempting. Not only are the flavours light but the price for both the dishes are light on the wallet as well.

Jay Jhulelal is a must for all food lovers of Pune as it is one the very few places serving authentic Sindhi Dal Pakwan in the city. Plan your visit the earlist, Dal Pakwans tend to get sold out!
