Pune has been the cultural home of Maharashtra for years and has grown into a food hub over the years. Along with visiting premium restaurants & lounges, the youth has also got a liking for street food.
One such cart which has ruled the hearts of Punekars for the past 40 years is Parmar Patisewale.
In 1982, Parmar Kaka started with a roadside cart set up in Sahakar Nagar. He started with a price of merely 20 paisa per pav pattice and 35 paise for 2 pav pattice. Slowly over time, the price has increased from 1 rupee in the 2000s to currently post-pandemic 8 rupees per pattice. This has to be the most pocket-friendly snack in Pune. The rainy season is the peak business season for Parmar Kaka when the wait time for you to get a single pattice can go up to 20-30 minutes.
Parmar Kaka fries pattice in batches of 50 and now with ever-increasing demand he has got help to keep a check on the bill counter. Remember the pattice is very hot and freshly fried, so blow it a bit to save yourself from a burn. Parmar Kaka hardly has time to even drink water but very generously agreed to have a talk with us. After having the savoury pattice the only words that came out of my mouth were, “TUM BOHT MAST KAAM KARTA HAI PARMAR KAKA”.
