A brand new home, just 3 months old, for south indian street food has recently opened up on Salunkhe Vihar Road, Wanowrie. And it is aptly named Oota Maadi!!! Oota Maadi in Kannada literally translates to ‘let’s eat food’, but this new place is dedicated to making it more interesting than just that. As the board in the restaurant displays Oota Maadi as an activity to release happy hormones and increase family time, what better way to release happy hormones than the lip-smacking Kannada style South Indian street food.
This Darshini style restaurant serves authentic South Indian Breakfast as well as meals. The ambience is really joyful and the food is really very tasty. It is a task to find authentic Karnataka food in Pune, barring a few establishments. And this is where Oota Maadi excels above these ones as it has a very reasonable pricing. The menu here starts from mere Rs. 30/- .
The menu consists of all the basic South Indian tiffins like Idli, Vada, Uttapam, Dose, Khara Bhath (upma) and Kesari Bhath (sheera). The soft idlis and crispy wadas are served with tomato chutney, sambar and coconut chutney. The main course includes a Rs. 130/- thali having rice, pooris, dal, rassam, dry Vegetable, gravy veg, papad, chutney, kadhi and a sweet. Also this is one of the only places to offer the tangy Bissibele Rice which is a speciality from Mysore, Karnataka.
The hygiene here is on the spot and the staff is very polite. You will find almost all the varieties of Dosas and Uttapams here. The unique street food flavour is something which is many a times missing in most of the places but this place manages to bring it out and of course to top all of it is the Filter Coffee. One of the best filter coffees I have had in my life. Next time you think about eating South Indian, this is the place. Let’s Oota Maadi!
