Pune has been a home to Amrut-tulyas and it is a common sight to find one at every corner. But the taste doesn’t always satisfy the chai lover in you. Sometimes it’s too sweet and sometimes it’s too grainy. And maybe that is the reason why we have our own chai-spots to hangout and live those 5 minutes of peace everyday sipping the Amrut.
One such place that has been ruling the hearts of Punekars for the past 45 years is the Hirabai Mahadik and Snacks. The outlet outrageously famous for its Lemon Tea is something you shouldn’t miss at all. Set up near Westside Store on FC ROAD, the stall has been run by Tukaram Genu Mahadik since the past 45 years. Along the way he has lost his closed ones but the happy faces of Punekars inspire him to keep the outlet running.
Started out with mere 5 Rupees some 45 years back, The Lemon Tea has grown onto the people who come shopping on FC Road and has created a huge fan base across Pune. And why shouldn’t it!! The tea is flavoured with fresh Pudina leaves each time before it is served. The tea leaves are boiled in the water along with Tulsi leaves. Once boiled, half a lemon is squeezed to add flavour to the tea. The taste and freshness prove that it is indeed Amrut. Other than the Lemon tea at 10 Rupees, the stall also offers Vadapav and Bhajji. The perfect combo on a chilly evening in the ongoing winter.
With the chilly winter about to hit Pune in the next few days, it’s the perfect opportunity to grab a cup of this Lemon Tea if you haven’t already. You are really missing out on Puneri Life if you have not tried it yet!!!
