The food from Konkan has a distinctive aroma and flavours just like its people! But where do you find that authentic taste without having to travel all the way to Konkan? Well right here in Pune at the newly opened Sarangaa Seafood Restaurant on Prabhat Road.
The founder, Mrs Mugdha Birodkar, a home chef and a culinary master in seafood checks all the dishes before they are served. She also personally looks into purchasing fresh raw fish on a daily basis sourced from Konkan and Mumbai.
The restaurant has a bluish interior hinting towards a sea facing atmosphere. The walls have a tokri design indicating the basket of fish. The ambience is quiet and peaceful. The menu has a wide variety of seafood thalis which include Surmai, Prawns, Pomfret, Bangda, Halwa, Tisrya (Seasonal) and a few more. Another section of the menu makes up for authentic konkani food items like kacchi amti, tikhal and loncha.
The delicious starters include Surmai fry and Rawas fry. The one we tried is their special Konkani Thali starting with the quintessential Konkani Solkadhi. Then comes the Bhakri which goes with all kinds of curries. Thirdly there is the shrimp curry which is made up of dry shrimps. Coming to the mains of the thali, there is the Tisrya Kalwan, which is basically a type of shell fish cooked in black masala base. Also there is kacchi aamti cooked in light spices and grated coconut. Lastly, the Prawns Pulao, which is the highlight of this thali, is like a showstopper!
This scrumptious Konkani thali is the best seafood I have ever had. The home style cooking and use of fresh ingredients makes up for a meal straight out of heaven! This lavish abode of seafood is a treat for your culinary senses.
