What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when someone says Gujarati snacks? Well, for me it’s nothing but Dhokla! This popular Gujarati snack is simply delicious and light on the tummy too.
In our quest to find the best place for Khaman and Dhoklas in Pune, we stumbled upon gold! Mahalaxmi Khaman Dhokla since 1977 is every dhokla lover’s paradise! Fresh and hot Khaman dhokla is further tempered with oil, mustard seeds and curry leaves. Garnished with generous quantities of warm coriander and grated coconut, green spicy chutney, sweet chutney and sev; thus adding to the potpourri of flavours. Unlike other places serving dhokla, this one adds no soda and serves each plate warm, perfect for a winter evening! The shop opens only for a few hours every day and you must visit before daily limited stock runs out.
Light and airy texture, the drizzled sugar syrup lending it just the perfect softness. The very first bite of this juicy dhokla led to a burst of sweet and savory flavours. Spongy like a dream that simply melts in your mouth without being dry or crumbly.
Also a special mention for the lip smacking chutneys that act as perfect companions for the Khaman Dhokla. Green chutney made from green chillies and garlic, sweet chutney made from tomatoes instead of using tamarind, khajoor or red chillies as key ingredients.
Also these yellow cubes of flavour spring back when pressed gently. As dense dry bites are a big no no. Simply put, drool worthy flavours and soft texture with a beautiful balance between sugar and salt.
“It’s been more than 45 years and our sole aim is to serve the best quality food prepared with lots of love”, says Dilip Budhani, the owner of Mahalaxmi Khaman.
If you wish to relish the taste of Gujarat at affordable prices and don’t want to compromise on the quality bit, then this is place you need to visit.
