What if rangoli wasn’t just an art form but a complete immersive experience in itself? Imagine that the rangoli comes to life, figures in the rangoli move and 3D effects pull you into a unique depiction of divine figures. Well, the city’s art enthusiasts are in for a visual treat.
Shreerang Kaladarpan foundation, Pune is currently hosting the Abhootpurva Bhavya Rangoli Pradarshan. This grand rangoli exhibition is happening from 7th to 9th February 2025 at Bal Gandharva KalaDalan, Shivaji nagar. This unique exhibition goes beyond the conventional rangolis, blending tradition, art and storytelling in the best way possible.
Every rangoli would have a story to tell. With this year’s theme being centered around Lord Shiva, in celebration of Maha Kumbh, the depictions would include 12 Jyotirlingas to significant moments from Shiva’s life. The exhibition is not just a showcase of artistic excellence but a depiction of educational experience in itself. Each rangoli is a result of year-round training at Shreerang Kaladarpan, where students refine their skills under the guidance of Akshay Shahapurkar, an experienced rangoli artist. Every rangoli is a collaborative effort, created by an experienced artist alongside a learning artist.
Visitors would be able to find an extraordinary variety of techniques and varieties on display such as:
- 3D rangoli: With 3D goggles, visitors would be able to experience some immersive rangoli of lord Ganesha and Goddess Parvati. The rangoli uses a dual color outline technique that when vied though a 3D glass, creates an illusion of the figures appearing lifelike alongside creating an illusion of depth.
- Portrait Rangoli: These rangolis are made using the lake colors, unlike the conventional rangoli colors. These colors help in giving the artwork a painting like effect. One such portrait rangoli beautifully depicts the emotional narrative of the Sati story. The rangoli captures the emotion of Shiva holding Sati’s burning remains and his grief being transformed into a storm and devastation.
- Mirror Rangoli: The mirror rangoli depicts Ardhanarishwar inverted on the floor. When viewed through a cylindrical mirror placed about it, the distorted rangoli transforms into a symmetrical image, demonstrating a perfect fusion on optical illusion and art.
- Moving Rangoli: In the moving rangoli, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is holding a sword, with a small electrical motor moving the sword up and down. This creates the illusion of him raising his weapon. This rangoli perfectly combines art and motion together.
Additionally, there is a 2 in 1 rangoli which adds a surprise factor by changing the form depending on the viewpoint. The exhibition also showcases permanent rangoli on the wall, rangoli on three different water levels and a mirror rangoli, for a truly mesmerizing viewing experience.
So, if you’re a rangoli enthusiast or simply someone who is looking for some mind-blowing creativity, this is an event that you cannot afford to miss. Let yourself immerse yourself in the world of exquisite rangolis!
