Almost 10 Ham radio operators from Pune will be gathering at Vetal Tekdi , the highest point in Pune for Hilltopping on Saturday & Sunday (27th & 28th February 2021) which happens to be the Science Day as well!

Hilltopping is an exercise that ham radio operators carry out regularly on hilltops in the vicinity to finetune their preparedness for continuing long-distance radio communications. Ham Radio is the only communication system that works during calamities even if all other communication mediums fail!
“For instance in 2019, when the flash floods happened in Sahakar Nagar areas, all other communication channels collapsed. Ham radio operators came at the rescue during that night even though there was no electricity supply & helped establish connections between areas for the rescue operations.”, senior ham radio operator Vilas Rabde said.
“Vetal Hill is the topmost point of Pune city. We have set up a UHF repeater (which acts like a cellphone or cell tower) at Vetal hill. From this point, every nook & corner of the city can be covered in cases of emergency.” Rabde added.
The stargazing activity has also been planned during these two days. The organzation has urged the students of E&TC engineering to attend this event. This activity will expose the students to the practical side of their academic studies.
