Bhimthadi Jatra, the rural carnival is back with its 16th edition to win you over and we can’t keep calm! The vibe, the decor and the energy here at Bhimthadi is quite vibrant as ever and all the Indian regional art & craft lovers are in for a delight.
Agricultural Development Trust Baramati and Bhimthadi Foundation in collaboration with Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth Rahuri have organised Bhimthadi Jatra from 21st to 25th December.
This unique folk, tribal art and food festival enthralls and entertains you all with around 350 stalls ranging from offerings by women’s self-help groups in rural areas, to art and craft by various tribes in districts across Maharashtra. This also comprises fruits, vegetables, grains and condiments too.
This year’s edition has women entrepreneurs, self-help groups and artisans turning up from 7 states of India other than Maharashtra and from 23 districts of Maharashtra. The striking decor at the ‘Eain Entrance’ gate, a special section dedicated entirely to ‘Millets’, a creative zone based on some unique concepts and environment conservation are some of the key highlights at Bhimthadi.
If you have been looking up handlooms, handmade accessories, decor items or stoned based jewellery, then Bhimthadi’s ‘Select’ section has got you covered. You could choose from a wide variety of handlooms coming from the states of Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam and Gujarat. For the accessories, you’ve got stalls loaded with some intricate and unique jewellery and accessories coming from Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. For the traditional fashion lovers, a huge variety of ethnic jutis by a brand from Haryana has got you sorted. Do not forget to check out the stall showcasing beautiful Pichwai paintings coming all the way from the state of Rajasthan.
This year, Bhimthadi has dedicated a special section entirely to millets with the aim of spreading awareness about the nutritional importance of some major millets like finger millet, foxtail millet, sorghum millet, pearl millet, buckwheat millet to name a few.
Another interesting highlight of this year’s Bhimthadi is its creative zone, it showcases artwork and designs, based on the concept of best out of waste, the process involved in recycling materials like tyres, plastic wastes, electronic waste and medical waste turning it into beautiful art pieces.
The food court has a lot of delicious and traditional Maharashtrian vegetarian and non-vegetarian fare cooked with hand-made masalas and age old recipes. So in a way the festival introduces you to the flavours of rural Maharashtra at its food stalls and one simply can’t resist this awesome variety of authentic dishes here.
Bhimthadi Jatra, this unique art and food festival cum fair is an experience that allows you to understand and enjoy the different regional flavours of not just our state but also of other states across the country.
