Helping Hands, a small organization of city-based professionals, distributed books to children of Abasaheb Atre Din Prashala as part of its celebration on World Students’ Day.
World Students’ Day is celebrated on October 15 every year to mark the birth anniversary of India’s 11th President, Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam.
The theme of the celebration was “Inspired to Read” and students of classes 8th-12th were given copies of the book “BharatRatna: A.P.J Abdul Kalam” by Shyam Sundar Mule along with other novels, sketchbooks and color boxes. The program was organized by Prasad Bhadsavale, a social worker and librarian of the Abasaheb Atre Din Prashala and Junior College.
Jayant Dev, an honored guest for Helping Hands conducted a session on “The importance of Reading in shaping your career” and Satish Khivansara, an alumnus of the school presented students with writing material.
Helping Hands, founded in 2018, is an informal initiative started with the idea of ‘giving-back’ to society. It collects funds, however small, from anyone who wishes to make a contribution and uses the total amount to donate to underprivileged students, orphanages and NGOs in the city. The members believe in ‘sustainable’ help without burdening any one donor financially.
In a country like India, education still remains a privilege. It therefore becomes a social responsibility of us all to help those we can in pursuit of their success. If you wish to contribute to Helping Hands, you can contact the following members:
