The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal  Ltd. (PMPML) officials declared today that commuters will have an option of cashless fare payment by the end of this month (February 2021).

“We are working on the final details and Ebixcash, an Indian subsidiary of US-based Ebix, has been chosen as a facilitator. The commuters will have an option of cashless payment, including a QR-code based payment system. Earlier, we had an agreement with the Central Bank Of India for fare payment, which has ended.” a senior official from the traffic department said.

Under this system, commuters will be able to scan QR codes on the bus shelters and even on buses to pay fares. The commuters can make the payment before arrival of the bus and can show the payment confirmation to the bus conductor after boarding the bus.

The bus shelters are being provided with fare details & charts to enable commuters know the schedules & fare charges. “The entire payment system is undergoing an overhaul and the conductors are being trained. The pandemic has forced the transport body to recognize the importance of a cashless system.” the official said.

The cash payment & monthly pass system will continue along with the new cashless QR code based payment system.
