Review:
Paresh Mokashi, the ace director who etched his name in the history of Marathi Cinema with ‘Harishchandrachi Factory’ is well and truly back on the silver screen with another gripping MASTERPIECE.

‘Vaalvi’ which literally translates to termites perfectly resembles the tale of this apathetic couple. The film starts with Avni (Anita Date) and Aniket (Swapnil Joshi) deciding to kill themselves at the same time. They are convinced that there is no way out of their financial problems and suicide is the best solution present at their helm then. What happens further on the judgement day is what the film is about.

Dark Comedy is a genre very very rarely explored in the Marathi contingent and who better than Paresh Mokashi to set a benchmark yet again. This hilarious situational comedy is a result of damn smart writing. The overall tone of the film also has a dull tinge to it as if it’s a metaphor to how a surface degrades when termites start eating it. The background music adds to the suspense.

Swapnil Joshi as the frustrated, jolly and sort of dumb husband is a joy to watch. His quirky way of delivery adds layers to his character. Anita Date plays a researcher who is studying the growth of TERMITES but is shown almost on the verge of going crazy. She has delivered an unexpectedly brilliant performance here. Shivani Surve and Subodh Bhave also play their parts to perfection but I won’t ruin the story for you by telling who they play.

‘Vaalvi’ is a tensely gripping thriller with a very short runtime and an enthralling story. VAALVI is a masterpiece dark comedy you must watch.
