Raanti Marathi Movie Review

Touted as the grandest Marathi Action Film ever, Raanti is a high budget action thriller backed by Punit Balan Studios.

With a strong technical team behind the camera comprising of Samit Kakkad as the Director and Hrishikesh Koli as the writer, the film promised to be a blockbuster. But that is unfortunately not the case.

The film starts with Vishnu’s (Sharad Kelkar) introduction as the Narsimha, the one who fights against injustice and kills demons.

The film sharply takes a turn to a flashback in the village of Patalapura where Vishnu’s father Vaman is a manager at the port. Sada Rane (Sanjay Narvekar) works under Vishnu’s father. Vishnu’s father refuses to let a criminal smuggler to smuggle out of the port, so Sada joins hands with the criminal and in the process kills Vaman.

The film sets itself up as a revenge drama and therefore does not offer anything new. Vishnu and his mother leave the village and 25 Year have passed since the incident and Vishnu is now a hitman for the police. Shivputra and Sada have grown in power as well. Will Vishnu be able to take revenge of his father’s murder or the chaos will take over, and this is how the thriller moves forward.

The female lead of the film Shanvi Srivastava is merely an object of desire, and the plot deviation to introduce her has to be one of the creepiest angles in the recent past.

The story is a complete mess and the dialogues are even worse. It felt like the writer’s interest to write an action flick generated from all those South Indian average masala films played on TV all my childhood. With nothing new to offer in the plot, the action choreography shines out the most. Even that is not unique but still makes up for an average action flick. The background score is engaging but still doesn’t do justice to the action.

The songs are decent enough but feel unnecessary because of the placement. The direction by Sumit Kakkad feels outdated and lacks the sharpness for a thriller. None of the emotional scenes hit you because of the rusty direction.

Sharad Kelkar acts as good as he can and delivers decent performance. Shanvi Srivastava is merely the love interest and feels is casted because she has a million followers on Instagram. I genuinely felt bad for actors like Sanjay Narverkar, Chhaya Kadam and even Santosh Juvekar for that matter because of the way their characters are treated. And is Marathi industry’s situation so bad that they have to sign such films?

To sum up, it’s a below average, star studded action flick with a predictable storyline supporting the mess. Watch if you can digest some mindless action with little to no plot.
