The Tribal cultural Museum is among the lesser known museums of Pune, despite being as old as 59 years old. Founded in 1965, this museum preserves more than 1358 artefacts. The Tribal cultural Museum displays the rich arts, crafts and lifestyle of about 50 different tribal groups  like Halbi, Kawar, Koli dhor and many others, all across Mahrashtra.

Located on Koregaon park road, this is the only museum in Pune to showcase the livelihood of tribal communities of Maharashtra. It offers a fascinating glimpse into the lives of Maharashtrian diverse tribal culture and art. The Museum is  Open on all weekdays, Monday to Friday from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm.

With the vast collection of artifacts, you can experience the cultural significance of these tribal folks. Artifacts include an extensive range of musical instruments like Flutes, Tabli, Ghangli, Kirkis and many more. These musical instruments reflect the rich musical history and heritage and serve as an important part of the tribal ceremonies and festivals.

Tribal Cultural museum also displays tribal hunting and agriculture tools which describe and portray daily sustainance of these Maharashtrian tribes. You can see these carefully crafted bows and arrows, fishing nets made out of bamboo and other farming equipment up close.

The meticulously crafted utensils are a major attractionwhich are made with pumpkins, red brick clay, wood etc. These utensils reflect the self-sufficiency of all these major tribes.

Stunning pieces of copper motifs alongwith handcrafted jewellery made from metal, beads, and shells are showcased. These specimen shows skill and artistry of the tribals. These items were not only decorative but also symbolized social status, marital status, and spiritual beliefs within the tribal communities.

The museum displays a vast range of warli folk art. With a wide range of handcrafted face masks which are the used in various used in festivals and dances. Stand out as one of the museum’s most colourful and artistic displays

Every  item and artefact has a story to tell. Posters in English and Marathi help you navigate through each item making this a very informative journey.
