Puneri Paatya is a brain child of Pune Handmade Papers in association with Studio Mars Pvt. Ltd Pune. It’s a unique Board Game and is inspired by the poker-face humor of Pune and its residents.
The board game might or might not remind you of Monopoly. It’s loosely based on the same concept. But the designers of Puneri Paatya wanted something more relatable. Something that they could re-live their childhood with. Something more Indian and especially Pune. That is when the idea got rooted. The designers at Studio Mars, are all localities. And they put all their knowledge of Pune on the board. The historical and geographical archives were dug out and caricatured beautifully on the board.
From Deccan to Swargate, Yerwada to Viman Nagar all nooks and corners of the city are covered. The concept is simple. Roll the dice and if you land on a Paatya sign you open one of the cards and do the activity. Same for the nature and landmark signatures. If the dice rolls a lucky number then you might just find an underground root to Shanivarwada from Deccan which nobody ever knew. Different mudras help you cover the board with different tasks at hand. The tasks vary from activities related to food and typical Puneri activities.
When the team showed the finished product to an audience of different age groups before launching, the game was a hit right away. Puneri Paatya ensures we get back in touch with our roots. Both the younger and the older generation are getting a chance to learn about the city in a super fun way.
