Detailed Review:
5 years back when Naal was introduced to the world and took it by storm with the cute little kid and his dialogue – “Aai Mala Khelayla Jaychaye, Jau de na va!” Now the same combo is back to tackle an even more complex relationship!
Chaitya (Shriniwas Pokle) is now a pre-teen kid, with a lot of confidence and enthusiasm. The grown up Chaitya visits his birth village with his adoptive father (Nagraj Manjule) and adoptive mother (Devika Daftardar). There, he once again meets his real mother (Deepti Devi) and is introduced to his real father (Jitendra Joshi). While the last part dealt with his complex relationship of who his real mother was, this time it deals with the awkwardness that erupts when he meets his siblings for the first time!
Chimi (Trisha Thosar) and Mani (Bhargav Jagtap) are Chaitanya’s real siblings. Seeing them for the first time, he is in complete awe of having a sibling. But the problems arise when Chimi doesn’t like him back and does not show any kind of interest in him. Mani is a mentally challenged kid, so he constantly requires attention and care. In all of these, our lead Chaitanya is stuck with complex situations trying to make a way out!
The theme of Raksha Bandhan works as an undertone throughout the film. As the film progresses the relationship of a brother and a sister starts to develop. On one side, we have the elders fighting for a piece of land and on another, we have the kids trying to win each other’s hearts!
The story is really simple and heart touching! Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti as the cinematographer is the best of all the responsibilities he has in this film. The camerawork, especially aerial , is brilliant! The dialogues by Nagraj Manjule are also quite emotionally heavy. The slow paced first half takes its own time to settle and establish relationships but the second half really brings out the big guns of emotional melodrama!
Trisha Thosar takes away all the thunder with her cuteness this time around! Her performance as Chimi is criminally cute. Shriniwas Pokale does his job right again and Bhargav Jagtap as the mentally challenged kid also aces his part. Other supporting cast is decent as well.
No matter how hard you try, you just can’t find the magic which Naal had, in this 2nd part! You keep feeling that something is missing all this time. Almost half the film is covered in montages. It definitely lacks a certain structure to grab your attention.
All in all, Naal 2 is an emotional heartfelt ode to the beautiful relationship that the siblings share. Though not as good as the previous part, Naal 2 manages to keep the magic alive from its predecessor!
