Playback singer, Ketaki Mategaonkar, who wowed the audience as a young actor in Timepass and Phuntru, is now getting into a new role of a music composer for her very first venture ‘ Mai ’.
Renowned singers like Shankar Mahadevan, Suresh Wadkar, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Pt Raghunandan Panshikar and Suvarna Mategaonkar, her mother have lent their voice to Ketaki’s new compositions.
“I always enjoyed expressing myself through music. Some of my earlier compositions having spiritual base were widely appreciated not only by the veterans like Suresh Wadkar but also by the music lovers. This encouraged me to try my hands at music direction. I am sure the listeners will experience the different approach of a women composer towards the music,” said Ketaki.
“We have very less known women music composers in the past like Lata Mangeshkar, Usha Khanna, Meena Khadilkar and Vaishali Samant. This picture needs to change and I feel that women working in the field of music must try to get into music direction. Listeners will appreciate good compositions from the women composers”, Ketaki added.
“The singers whom I approached have confidence in my compositions and have sung for my first album. This gesture from these veterans has come as a blessing and has given me a lot of encouragement,” she added.
The ‘Maai’ album has 9 songs, most of them in positive and spiritual in nature and are written by Ketaki’s great-grandmother . The songs will be released on Ketaki’s official youtube channel in a one song per month format.
