Jhimma 2 Review:
During the time when Covid was almost over and the cinema goers were excited about watching film in cinemas again, Hemant Dhome and his brilliant set of actors brought us Jhimma! Showered by love from public and critics alike, it became an instant hit! Jhimma ended with an open end and the sequel is here to celebrate those heartwarming stories going forward.
Jhimma 2 starts exactly where the first one ended! Krutika (Sayalee Sanjeev) has an association with Kabir (Siddhant Chandekar) for a travel agency. Their company’s next trip is planned to the United Kingdom. And this is where everyone decides to celebrate Indu Darling’s (Suhasini Joshi) 75th Birthday. So, the whole gang reunites to celebrate yet again!
Nirmala (Nirmiti Sawant) is accompanied by her vivacious daughter in law Taniya (Rinku Rajguru) who is also an addition to the gang. While Vaishali (Suchitra Bandekar) brings along her talented niece Manali (Shivani Surve), a skilled bridal makeup artist. Adding a delightful twist to the journey, the group includes Meeta (Kshitee Jog), a widowed woman on a quest for love.
What follows is a roller coaster ride of laughter in the first half and a high rising emotional tide in the second half. Hemant Dhome has managed to weave yet another soulfull and heart touching women-led drama which doesn’t feel like a preachy piece of work! Irawati Karnik really knows her way around writing strong women with their fair share of emotional baggage.
The film doesn’t bore you at any point thanks to Nirmiti Sawant’s impeccable comic timing throughout the movie. It is her era and we are just living in it! Rinku Rajguru also aces her oversmart character with that ‘gavran’ wit. Kshitee Jog’s character is still lovelorn so she doesn’t get much out of it. Suhasini Joshi’s powerful act in the second half is commendable. Shivani Surve is on a roll after Vaalvi!
The music by Amit Raj is not extra ordinary but Marathi Pori in my opinion is a chartbuster waiting to explode! The cinematography is just ordinary, but for a heartwarming film with little to no scope for exploration, it doesn’t affect much!
Coming to a few drawbacks which are very obvious would be a few cliché scenes here and there. Hemant Dhome’s obsession with Marathi characters struggling to speak clear English and jumbling words is beyond my understanding. He has overdone the same aspect in all his recent films. The structure of the film episodic and hence works majorly like waves. So, it might ask you to laugh after an extremely emotional scene!
All in all, Jhimma 2 is a powerful women-centric drama with a bunch of even more powerful characters! A heartwarming joyride you can definitely enjoy with your family!
