Hashtag Tadev Lagnam Marathi Movie Review

About the film:

Anand Gokhale’s Hashtag Tadev Lagnam is yet another cliche attempt at a romantic comedy about late marriages. The production looks low-budget, but the overall film packs a sweet, watchable punch.

Plot Overview:

The film starts with a fun lighthearted musical montage in which Athashree (Subodh Bhave), a 40-year-old Marathi Professor, is rejected front and back by almost 34 girls. The reasons for denial are always silly and stupid. But even after a long fight against his fate, the 35th girl almost marries him.

Sometime later, when Atthu is on a date with the 36th girl, Gayatri (Tejashree Pradhan), also seems to deny him for marriage. But after a quirky interaction with Atthu, Gayatri appears to get along. Their journey awaits few more surprises as they bond. The reason for Gayatri’s denial is a secret she wishes to keep from Atthu. So will this secret be a thorn in the way of Atthu’s road to marriage or will things take a new turn? Watch to find out.

Technical Aspects:
The writing and dialogues by the pair Gokhale-Parandkar are filled with pop culture references which work as a breath of fresh air undermined by the cliches in the story. The first half gets uninteresting scene by scene. But the second half redeems the film to a point.

The production design is something which feels a bit off. Most of the scenes look fake. The BGM is underwhelming and the music too is not that effective. The first song is quirky though. The cinematography by Vijay Mishra is decent.

Performances:
Tejashree Pradhan’s silver screen comeback is mediocre at best. Subodh Bhave has lost his charm. Such roles don’t suit him anymore. His comic timing seems off. Other supporting cast play their part as needed.

Overall Verdict:
All in all, Hashtag Tadev Lagnam is a half-hearted attempt at presenting modern relationships which deal with late marriages. With a few funny and heart-tugging scenes, it manages to be a watchable flick.
