Review:
The National Award winning Marathi film Goshta Eka Paithanichi has finally hit theatres yesterday. The film is written and directed by Shantanu Rode. The film is like a conventional novella and delivers on point.

The film starts with us being introduced to Sujeet played by Suvrat Joshi, and his wife Indrayani played by Sayali Sanjeev, who are living a modest life with their young son Shree played by Aarav Shetye. Sujeet sells flowers for a living and Indrayani stitches falls to saris. After an injury puts a cast on Sujeet’s leg, the whole burden of earning falls upon Indrayani. But adding to their misery, an expensive Paithani sari gets ruined by oil, spilled by Shree while playing. Then starts Indrayani and her family’s journey of saving their reputation and cleaning that sari before delivering it.

The cute and heartwarming moments of the family is where the film excels the most. It takes its sweet time to settle and doesn’t really justify the 140 minute runtime. The climax did not quite work for me as it is really hard to find people with such inherent goodness these days. The paithani as a symbol for women’s prestige works really well.

This has to be Sayali Sanjeev’s career best performance and thankfully the screenplay too revolves around her emotional arc which helps her deliver the best. Other supporting cast doesn’t disappoint as well.

The simple story works wonders for the film and the performances too . Goshta Eka Paithanichi is a family drama full of sweet moments and definitely serves its purpose. It has a soothing impact on the audience – the people who still believe in goodwill. You must watch it with your family.
