Review:
Oh Dear!!! This could have been so much better. The potential Ekda Kaay Zala showed in the trailer is lost in the film.
The film starts off with a very beautiful and soothing song by Saleel Kulkarni and penned by Sandeep Khare. We are introduced to Kiran played by Sumit Raghavan who also is the narrator of the movie. As we move further we get to know his relationship with his son and that is where the drama starts to unfold. The first half will keep you hooked completely.
Sumit’s character looks very enthusiastic but fails to radiate that energy. Sumit’s son played by Arjun Purnapatre is absolutely at his best. He is really cute and draws all the attention in every scene featuring him.
The film feels half-baked as it tries to balance between Kiran’s dreams and his relationship with his son. The emotional part is where it actually excels.
Once the actual plot twist comes out, the film completely falls apart. The story takes a serious turn after interval and starts loosing audience’s attention.
The music and songs are absolutely top class here. Can’t even describe how soothing the songs are. Definitely the best part of the film. The family dynamics of a Marathi household have been quite subtly explored which is something many directors fear to touch. Some heartfelt moments will make you emotional and teary by the end.
Saleel Kulkarni with his debut as a director definitely shows how family dramas is his niche. But this time around he completely falters. Ekda Kay Zhala can be missed but if you want to hear those beautiful songs on Dolby then go for it.
