Plot
Based on the life and struggles of the Indian National Women’s Cricket Team Captain Mithali Raj and how she led India to the world cup final in 2017.
Review
The film starts off with the electric tunes of Fateh. We are introduced to a notorious Noori and a quiet Mithali. But as soon as they meet, their friendship takes off and Noori helps Mithali sneakily learn cricket.
Like all the other biopics, this one too takes the formulaic approach. The director, Srijit Mukherjee, heavily relies on the underdog story approach rather than focusing on the exact events of Mithali’s life. The film doesn’t do justice to the glamorous career of Mithali Raj AT ALL.
It is quite difficult to build suspense or even surprise the audience when the film is based on such a magnanimous sporting figure of the country whose every achievement is a record. Maybe that’s the reason why the struggles of Mithali and how she became the torchbearer of Indian Women’s Cricket is not something which can be seen through this biopic.
The screenplay is so long and flabby that there is not even one edge of the seat or nail biting scene in the film. The background score gets worse and worse with every scene. The unnecessary long scenes took me out of the film completely.
The only thing which holds the film together is Tapsee Pannu’s performance. She really gets into the skin of the character. Vijay Raaz does a tremendous job. He breathes fire in the 15 minutes he gets.
Shabaash Mithu is another below average Bollywood biopic which makes all the noise but fails to sound clear. People would love this one more on OTT rather than in theatres.
