Review:
A fun, entertaining and full of laughter, BhauBali is an apt conversion of a monumental play in the Marathi entertainment industry. The pacing, the dialogues and the screenplay is so tight and on point that the movie doesn’t let you off the hook at any point.
The movie is Set in the suburbs of Mumbai. Bali is a milk vendor land Bhau is a retired government employee. Bali miscalcullates the milk bill and Bhau refuses to pay up and then the war begins. The war between the slum and the housing society goes to extreme situations as the movie unfolds.
Written by Jayant Pawar the story is full of melodrama and lighthearted comedy time to time. The attempt to show the differences in class is quite satisfactory. The use of black comedy and allegories throughout make it a very smart attempt.
The movie is full of cameos from famed Marathi artists. The battle between Manoj Joshi and Kishor Kadam really transpires throughout. Hrishikesh Joshi plays the manipulative policeman and boy oh boy does he nail it. The direction is smart and appreciative, to convert a play into a movie without leaving any loose threads is quite commendable. The end or the second half feels rushed and will leave you wanting for more drama to unfold.
Considering the sarcastic approach in the writing you should definitely give this one a chance. Surely worth a watch with your family and friends.
BhauBali is a salient effort of bringing a monumental Marathi play to the big screen. BhauBali brings back the good old patented Marathi comedy drama after so many years.
