Review:

Planet Marathi OTT, the fastest growing digital space for Marathi content is back with another Web Series. ‘Athang’ which hails to be the 1st periodic drama series in Marathi, and is directed by Jayant Pawar.

Set in the 1930s, the story starts by the scenic shores of Konkan. The Sardeshmukh wada is lit up by celebrations for the birth of Rao. But the curse of a witch, Subhadra, played by Ketaki Narayan hits the wada and disrupts the celebrations. Will the unfathomable curse ever lift or will it haunt the Sardeshmukh wada forever?

The show takes the story forward in two eras, one led by Urmila Kanetkar who plays Laxmi in 1930s and the other one led by Bhagyashree Milind who plays Sushila in 1960s. Sushila moves into Sardeshmukh Wada and is introduced to the horrors of the castle. The now grown up Rao has become Raavan of the village played by Dhairyasheel Gholap.

The first two episodes are riveting but not as scary as they should have been. The horror elements are cliché but the background score will keep you glued to the screen. The story is quite intriguing and interesting. The parallels drawn seem adventurous and the courage shown by makers to make it grand is commendable.

The cast is impressive and with Tejaswini Pandit to appear in the further episodes, the show definitely will live up to its expectations. The Marathi industry is experimenting with new tales and we should encourage this tide. Go watch the first two episodes out now on Planet Marathi. Further episodes will be released every Friday.
