Kumbhar family has been celebrating Ganpati for 20 years with family and friends now.

Every year the family starts conceptualizing the theme weeks ahead of the festival. Mr. Kumbhar who has a keen eye for detail, ensures to involve the younger generation every year. Mrs. Kumbhar’s side of the family that lives very close by drops in every evening for preps.

This year’s theme is musical instruments. To your surprise you’ll notice that the Veena, santoor and the dholaks have been made by Mr. Kumbhar himself at home. I am a personal witness to it. Everything is made with cardboard which if not necessarily is reusable after they’ve been carved the way they are, but is definitely eco-friendly. The floral tinsels and lights are re-used every year.

This family of 4 comes from the background of engineering mostly. And they utilise the technical skills of each and every member. Previous years decorations have been the likes of a wings flapping structure of a Garud alike bird.

The crux of the festival i.e. Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav here has been kept intact here. Family and friends along with neighbours are walking in and out of the Kumbhar house with offerings, take blessings or just adore the deity’s delicately planned and executed decor.

Urbanly is very delighted to share Kumbhar family’s story in our exclusive #BappaMazaNirala feature of unique themes this year.
