Aflatoon Movie Review
After a lot of historical and dramas in the recent times, finally a slapstick comedy has released in the form of Aflatoon. Written and Directed by Paritosh Painter, Aflatoon is an out and out slapstick comedy with a wafer thin plot but with a lot of twists.
The film starts with an informative animation which explains us the story of the three detectives. All of them are defective in the following ways – Shree (Siddharth Jadhav) who is blind, Manav (Paritosh Painter) who is deaf and Adi (Jayesh Thakkar) who is dumb.
To get out of their financial turmoil they nab the first opportunity that comes their way. Maria (Shweta Gulati) is being duped by her father’s friend Ganesh Gonsalves (Bharat Dabholkar) for a huge amount of 10 Crores. She is supposed supposed to get the same amount from him in return of her father’s villa. Maria decides to hire the trio to help her out. The trio hatches a full proof plan to help her out and get their fee but the dashing cop Alia (Tejaswini Lonari) comes in their way.
Talking about the positives first, watching the duo of Sidhharth Jadhav and Johnny Lever get as dumb as possible on screen is a treat. This is what drives most of the film. Not to forget Aflatoon is also the Marathi debut of the father son duo Johnny Lever and Jesse Lever. Their sequences definitely show how they are the best in the business. Shweta Gulati also does a decent job. But the film really drops its mantle because of the lacklustre performances of the other leads. Tejaswini Lonari doesn’t work as a dashing cop and her Konkani accent is just hideous.
The cinematography is decent and definitely a conventional slapstick trope along with the music. The production design for such a low budget is far far better. The writing takes a lot of beating when it comes to the scenes between Adi and Manav. This is the part where Adi has to explain everything to Manav. This dumb charade if clubbed with better writing and better camaraderie would have just cracked the audiences up. But what happens is completely opposite, it just becomes boring and repetitive after a point.
You must not expect a slapstick comedy to have much pace, but the extremely slow first half gets you bored. But the comedy show towards the end will make you laugh as much. And only the writing, direction and in this case the acting of Paritosh Painter is to be blamed for. Also the dubbing is awful.
To sum things up, Aflatoon is a below average slapstick comedy with just enough firepower to make you laugh time to time. If you have to time to kill, this can turn into a fun ride with friends and family.
