Yerwada Open Jail new eatery, Shrunkhala, is the talk of the town for over last week. Team Urbanly decided to pay a visit to get the actual experience. Read on to know what it is like to eat this snacksing place inside the open jail premises in Pune!
This first of its kind eatery is run by inmates; right from cooking till serving. But the most comforting part we observed right when we entered is that the inmates’ staff is not wearing their jail uniform. These inmates working here have a different normal looking uniform, so you kind of feel safe here!
The setup is quite basic but kept very clean by the staff. The inmates working here get a salary which they encash when their term is over and helps them live a respectable life after their imprisonment. The thought put behind this concept is perfect and has been put to perfect execution as well.
Coming to the food part, the menu is full of snacks we enjoy on an everyday basis. Vadapav, Pakodas, Pohe, Upma, Pavbhaji, Misal Pav, Pulao, etc are available throughout the day. We could see a lot of corporates coming from across the street and a few lawyers taking advantage of this facility.
We can say that the business idea has already turned out to be profitable for Yerwada Open Jail! Misal Pav and vada pav that we tried were served hot and packed a punch of flavours. Nothing to complain about!
During lunch time, they are also offering Chapati-Sabji and a full Rice Plate. So not just for snacking, one can visit them for lunch meals too. The staff and the management of Shrunkhala, Yerwada’s Open Jail Eatery, are well-trained and are quite pleasant.
Not the kind of experience you’d expect from this concept, but the kind you’d hope for from a professional restaurant! Same is the case with presentation of the food, hygiene, taste and freshness of the ingredients.
The target customers for Shrunkhala eatery at Yerwada Open Jail are the corporates working right across the street. But we urge Punekars to visit this unique concept eatery to show support and encourage the management!
