Meet Prashant Narwade. For the last 6 years he has been sculpting Bappa Idols at home.

The artist and his family’s search for their perfect idol for their favorite festival was leading to disappointment. The planning would start weeks ago and the search for the idol even before that. Usually the search would extend from Nigdi where the family stays, up to Pen. And with no option in hand they would either compromise on the theme or change it altogether.

This was the story since 1995. Finally the artist in Prashant took control. His academics of fine-arts and in his words, the YouTube University helped him pioneer the art of sculpting the deity’s idol. To the family’s delight the idols were turning out to be perfect. The younger and older generation all came together to sculpt, decorate and celebrate the festival.

For many years they have had varied themes. Mostly revolving around their lives. So this year when Prashant’s nephew entered school, the brothers decided to highlight the big step of the toddler. He started drawing sleeping and standing lines and that inspired the artists. Using the concepts of lines the background of the decoration is Kollam designs. And of course instilling the importance of academics, Bappa is reading from a book.

Not only has the family been encouraging eco-friendly behavior in the society by doing this, but the thought behind the theme is winning our hearts.

Urbanly is very excited to start our exclusive #BappaMazaNirala feature of unique themes this year with the Narwade family.
