Review
Set in the spoils of Kaza, Khameran a tribe of dacaits is led by the charming and ever so charismatic Shamshera a.k.a Ranbir Kapoor. As the crime intensifies and starts bugging the British they with the wrath of Daroga Shudh Singh a.k.a Sanju Baba take down the whole tribe. Will they ever smell the air of freedom? Will the legend of Shamshera rise like a phoenix???
The larger than life massy appeal donned by Shamshera ever since its teaser released is delivered on the big screen at last. The full on masala dialogues and upbeat songs make this one an above average decent period drama.
RK is back on the silver screen after 4 years and the fans definitely deserved the double dose. Ranbir Kapoor playing the father-son duo has turned out to be a wise choice. The caricatures he picks while portraying the sardar dacait is simply flamboyant.
Sanjay Dutt may have overpowered Ranbir here. Sanju baba completely owns the role and he is the kind of villain massy dramas need. Vaani Kapoor plays the love interest of Shamshera. The choreography of the item numbers definitely make her shine even more. Not the acting part.
Karan Malhotra’s direction and choice of going with the linear storytelling format gives the film the intensity it needed. Some scenes fall flat and fail to reach the emotions considering the over stretched screenplay and the overall run time. The dreamy cinematography and the vfx amp up the ante. Especially the train scene by the end is so beautifully choreographed.
Shamshera is the testesterone filled complete mass entertainer Bollywood was waiting for. Ranbir in any genre still remains undefeated.
