13th February is observed as World Radio Day Internationally to celebrate the oldest form of communication and entertainment! Radio enthusiasts from Maharashtra had gathered together to showcase their own collection of radios , ham radios and transistors at Muktangan Exploratory Science Centre, Model Colony, Pune.
This unique & vast exhibit featured radios from 1953 till the latest Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM). The maximum collection of radios on display is with Mr Shripad Kulkarni, the oldest one being a 1957 model. Mr. Vilas Rabade, a representative of Radio Ham Group said, ‘Radio has an indispensable place in our heart. Television rolled out in 1972 in Pune. Before that, Radio Ceylon and Akashwani were the most respected names!’
As the world has changed, the radio has evolved and has adapted new technologies to help us connect effectively! This exhibit truly showcased the evolution of radio & how the radio fraternity is adapting to the new technologies swiftly.
