Pune’s Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) is all set to welcome the city’s first ever Postgraduate Diploma course in Temple Management at the University’s Nashik Campus. This unique course is aimed at providing a structural framework for managing finances, administration and day to day functioning of religious institutions. This course is expected to be a game changer for those looking to blend traditions with contemporary management practices.
Let’s be real! Religious institutions in India aren’t just place of worship and rituals anymore. They’re full fledged organizations that requires effective management to ensure smooth operations of legal, financial and organizational aspects. Recognizing the need of the hour, Savitribai Phule Pune University this six-month diploma course is designed to blend practical skills and theoretical knowledge together. The course would be covering the key areas of Temple Administration & Governance, Financial and Resource management, Human resource and conflict management, event and ritual planning, technology integration alongside community engagement and social responsibility.
This program comes at a time when the need for skilled and professional folks in temple management is growing. Not just that, religious institutions are playing a key role in various aspects including cultural heritage preservation, social initiatives and tourism. Many large religious institutions such as Shirdi Sai Baba, Tirupati Balaji temple and Vaishno Devi in Katra handles number of pilgrims. The vast number of pilgrims and donations requires structured administration similar to corporate organizations.
The program includes three months of in-person training with over 20 in-person interactive sessions. It would be followed by a three-month internship at some of India’s most prestigious temples. Fee for the course is approximately Rs. 25,000/-, with the admission for the inaugural batch commenced in February 2025. Each batch would be admitting 30 students, with several temples across the country supporting the initiative through scholarships to enhance the accessibility.
Eligibility: Graduate Degree from a recognized University and interest in Temple administration and related field
