Hee Anokhi Gaath: Marathi Movie Review
Mahesh Manjrekar is back with yet another feel good happy-sad family drama. This time with Shreyas Talpade in the lead. Hee Anokhi Gaath starts with a bang but slowly starts feeling dragged only to pick itself up by the end.

The film starts with a typical middle class Indian Family run by a Hitler who insists on her daughters to remain simple. His daughter Amala, an eccentric electric girl, aspires to enter the showbiz world some day. She meets a charming cinematographer, Rohit, in Mahabaleshwar where he is doing the recce of his film. A simple love story starts building between the two. A tragic incident brings Shree into Amala’s life. Then starts a unique yet forced love story.

Sudesh Manjrekar gets the best out of his actors. Sharad Ponkshe’s act is one of those examples. Shreyas Talpade performs well as the gentleman.

The family dynamics don’t really flesh out and so, you always keep feeling something is missing. The story and writing is sort of good or maybe just above average to make it watchable. The film somehow saves itself from becoming a snoozefest with the comedy in the second half.

The cinematography is dull and uninspiring. The sound and background music are bland and don’t add anything to the film. Edit also feels choppy which makes the film a little off. The writing by Mahesh Manjrekar is top notch but Sudesh Manjrekar and Amol Parchure’s direction fails to justify that.

All in all, Hee Anokhi Gaath follows a typical Mahesh Manjrekar template of starting with fun, a lot of drama and a happy ending. Give it a watch if you have loved Manjrekar films from the past.
