PCMC has quite a number of places that are way too amazing and are often overlooked by Punekars. We recently came across this thali place on Google having 4.5 rating with more than 1100 reviews, ‘HERITAGE’ The Royal Dining. This probably is the highest rating for a thali place in not just PCMC but Pune too! Now we had to try it to know what brings a 4.5 rating to Heritage The Royal Dining.
The restaurant is located on the first floor of Privia Square mall on Spine road in Moshi. Donning a complete ethnic and royal interior, the place does speak Indian heritage at every inch. The thalis are custom made in oval shape to accommodate more bowls with the logo engraved on it. This shows their attention to small details and starts off our thali experience on a pleasant note.
While we were appreciating minor details of the place, here comes the first surprise, a hot cup of soup specially for winters. You usually get a welcome drink at all places, but this place is different for sure. Option of a welcome drink is also there though. It was a mixed veg soup with croutons and jaljira on the menu on the day of our visit.
Farsan items that arrived after soup were Dal Pakwan Chaat, Shahi Dhokla and Veg Lollipop. All these three dishes were quite unique. We have never seen Dal Pakwan in a thali before and that too in chaat format. Crispy crushed pakwan with hearty dal topped with tangy chutneys is a fantastic combination. Shahi dhokla was a layered delight finished with a top layer of shrikhand and tutti frutti. We all loved it but kids are the ones who will enjoy it the most for its colorful avatar! Then came fried veg lollipops on a stick and dipped in a medley of oriental sauces. All three farsans were quite unique for a thali and very well made too.
Now comes their dessert selection that wins them brownie points. Being Sankashti Chaturthi, hot ukdiche modak were on the menu. Who doesn’t like hot ukdiche modak with desi ghee! The 2nd dessert for the day was Dryfruit Basundi which was very well made without any additives and with loads of roasted dry fruits. Quite a slurpy bowl of dessert it was. Next in thali was the Moong Dal Halwa served warm. Bathed in a good amount of desi ghee, this was a dessert no Rajsthani Maharaj can go wrong with. This dessert selection was by far the most impressive in thali restaurants so far. Double marks to Heritage The Royal Dining for that!
Sabjis for the day were Jodhpuri gatta, Baingan Bharta, Dum Aloo and Paneer Pasanda. Each one quite different from the other, right from the appearance to the unique flavours they all offered. It is the first time we have come across Baingan Bharta in a Rajasthani/Gujarati thali. Accompanied by hot phulkas, Rotlas and Methi Thepla; your main course is quite light affair due to non-spicy and non-oily preparations. As per lunch and dinner menus, their rice options keep changing. We got to try vegetable pulao, white rice and Gujarati Kadhi Khichdi too! Total satisfaction here.
We were told that they are also cooking Rajasthani winter special Haldi Ki sabji in desi ghee and Gujarati winter special Mini Undhiyo. If you are a fan of such regional Indian delicacies, then Heritage The Royal Dining in Moshi is an ideal destination for you!
The entire experience of dining here, menu selection and food preparations at Heritage The Royal Dining truly top notch. The 4.5 Google rating is completely valid for this amazing Thali restaurant in PCMC. This four year old establishment deserves all the praise coming their way. Not just the ones dwelling in PCMC, but also the ones living in Pune must visit Heritage The Royal Dining!
